The Story Behind the Ndinda Foundation
What began as one woman’s journey became a mission to bring lasting change.
Rooted in Strength
Vivian Mutindi, our founder, was born in Kenya and raised by her mother and grandmother—two strong women who shaped her sense of purpose and resilience. At the age of 12, Vivian moved to the Netherlands with her younger sister. She built a life, became a healthcare professional, and is now the proud mother of two sons. But her heart remained deeply connected to her roots.
A Life-Changing Encounter
In 2013, a visit to the remote Maasai village of Oloonkolin changed everything. Vivian witnessed firsthand the hardship faced by the local community: women and children risking their lives to fetch water, and diseases like cholera and typhoid spreading due to a lack of basic services.
She couldn’t look away — and chose to act.
When a Name Finds Its Meaning
The community began calling her Nashipai, meaning “she who brings happiness.” But the deeper transformation came when she remembered the name her grandmother gave her: Mutindi, from Ndinda — a woman who travels from place to place, uplifting others and bringing hope.
In that moment, her name became her mission. The Ndinda Foundation was born.
Hope in Action
Today, the Ndinda Foundation works across Kenya to uplift vulnerable communities — with a special focus on women, girls, and youth. Our work is built on the belief that dignity, opportunity, and equal access are the building blocks of lasting development.
We focus on clean water, healthcare, education, economic opportunity, and climate resilience — always in partnership with the communities we serve.
When Women Rise, Communities Thrive
Empowered women and girls are at the heart of everything we do. When they have the tools, knowledge, and confidence to lead, entire communities benefit. That’s why we invest in their leadership, health, and independence — unlocking the potential for long-term, sustainable change.
