For us, this begins with our grandmother
She taught us that the opportunities you receive can be passed on.
Our grandmother had the opportunity to study at a time when education was far from a given for women. She used what she learned to help women and young families move forward. Now 95, she continues to serve her community in Mutonguni, Kenya, with love and a joy for life. My younger sister Valentine and I grew up in her care.
When I was twelve and Valentine was eight, we moved to the Netherlands with our mother. Our grandmother stayed in Kenya, but her love and the values she raised us with came with us. Here, we had opportunities to learn, grow and build a future. Now we are returning to Mutonguni to pass on opportunities, together with the community where our roots lie.
That connection inspired me, Vivian, to establish Ndinda Foundation. Together with Valentine, I want to build on our grandmother's work. Her commitment to others earned her the name Ndinda. To us, this name represents someone who takes action and brings hope. Any one of us can be that person.

Mutonguni, Kitui County
This is where our roots lie
Mutonguni is in Kitui County, eastern Kenya, in the homeland of the Kamba community. Here, we learned to share what we had, care for one another and help others, even when we had little ourselves.
For many families, paying for enough food, school fees and medical care is difficult. Drought and unpredictable rainfall can cause harvests to fail and incomes to disappear.
