Rooted in strength
Vivian Mutindi, our founder, was born in Kenya and raised by her mother and grandmother: two strong women who shaped her sense of purpose and resilience. At twelve, Vivian moved to the Netherlands with her younger sister. She built a life there, became a healthcare professional and is now the proud mother of two sons. But her heart stayed connected to her roots.
A meeting that changed everything
In 2013, a visit to the remote Maasai village of Oloonkolin changed everything. Vivian saw the hardship the community faced: women and children risking their lives to fetch water, and diseases like cholera and typhoid spreading for lack of basic services.
She could not look away, and decided to act.
When a name finds its meaning
The community began calling her Nashipai, ‘she who brings happiness’. But the deeper change came when she remembered the name her grandmother had given her: Mutindi, from Ndinda, a woman who travels from place to place, strengthens others and brings hope.
In that moment her name became her mission. Ndinda Foundation was born.
Hope in action
Today, Ndinda Foundation works in Kenya to strengthen vulnerable communities, with a special focus on women, girls and young people. Our work rests on the belief that dignity, opportunity and equal access are the building blocks of lasting development.
We focus on clean water, healthcare, education, economic opportunity and climate resilience, always together with the communities we serve.
